Davida Charney, Ph.D.

Dr. Davida Charney, Ph.D., has been a professor in the Department of Rhetoric and Writing for 25 years. Prior to her time here at The University of Texas at Austin she was a faculty member in English at Penn State University for eleven years. Her teaching focused on many types of writing, including technical and professional communication, proposal writing and policy arguments. Her research on instructional manuals, job materials, form design and persuasive strategies has appeared in numerous journals and anthologies. Professor Charney also leads workshops for professionals on change management and publishing in the sciences.

Credentials: 

Charney completed a bachelor’s degree in linguistics from Brandeis University and a master’s degree in linguistics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst before receiving her Ph.D.  in rhetoric at Carnegie-Mellon University.
