Susan Word, SPHR, SHRM-SCP

Susan Word  has made a career of providing human resources solutions focused on achieving organizational goals, workforce planning and simplifying employment processes. Susan is most at home when she can help create conditions for individuals and teams to be successful.

Word launched her career in the US Army as a commissioned officer and Blackhawk helicopter pilot, starting in Operations Management, moving to frontline supervisor and finally to General Foreman before transitioning to Human Resources Management where she found her true calling. She has held leadership positions in the private and public sectors, encompassing a variety of industries including semiconductor manufacturing, electronics testing, municipal government, public utilities, outsourced sales and medical services. 

Word founded her HR consulting company, forWord Connections, in 2014 and in 2022, she accepted an opportunity to return to public service, currently serving as the Manager of Compensation and Career Services at the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

Word continues serving the profession as an Adjunct Instructor of the Human Resources Certification Prep course at Austin Community College and Temple College.

As a conscientious veteran, Word volunteered as an Ombudsman with the Employer Support of Guard and Reserve (ESGR)2011-2023 and is an active member of the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM). 

Credentials: 

Susan Word graduated from the Jacksonville State University, Jacksonville, Alabama, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. She then earned her Master of Arts degree in Human Resources Development Leadership from the University of Texas at Austin.
