Developing on AWS for University IT Staff

Description: 

Designed for experienced developers, this 9-week course focuses on building web solutions using cloud technologies and prepares you to take the AWS Certified Developer – Associate level AWS Certification exam. Instructor-led classes, knowledge assessments and hands-on labs help students master the course content, reinforce key concepts and implement solutions using a variety of AWS tools. Instruction will focus on how these tools and concepts apply in the context of higher education IT processes and structures.

Learning Outcomes: 

This course teaches you how to:

  • Set up the AWS SDK and developer credentials for Java, C#/.Net, Python, and JavaScript
  • Use the AWS SDK to interact with AWS services and develop solutions
  • Use Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) and Amazon DynamoDB as data stores
  • Integrate applications and data by using Amazon Kinesis, AWS Lambda, Amazon Simple Queue Service (Amazon SQS), Amazon Simple Notification Service (Amazon SNS), and Amazon Simple Workflow Service (Amazon SWF)
  • Use AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) for service authentication
  • Use Web Identity Framework and Amazon Cognito for user authentication
  • Use Amazon ElastiCache and Amazon CloudFront to improve application scalability
  • Deploy applications by using AWS Elastic Beanstalk and AWS CloudFormation
Prerequisites: 
  • Students should have successfully completed the AWS Cloud Foundations course OR have at least one year of professional cloud developing experience
  • Students should currently hold a position at a higher education institution.

Additional Information: 

The AWS Certified Developer – Associate level AWS Certification exam is NOT included as part of this course. Learners wishing to pursue certification must schedule the exam directly through AWS.

Developing on AWS for University IT Staff will prepare you for certification in the following ways:

  • Practice exam questions are embedded in the curriculum throughout the course
  • The program also includes a “Bridging to Certification” module to help prepare you for the exam
  • Students will have access to exam preparation free of charge directly through AWS
  • A discount voucher for 50% off the price of the certification exam is also included. Normally $150, the voucher lowers the price to $75.
